Proprietary Level 1 Description

Comtech Proprietary Level 1 is applied to information assets that are classified as Business Critical or Highly Confidential by the Business Unit Owner. This may include trade secrets, financial data, source code for customer-facing products, network diagrams, source code, strategic plans, personnel information, and patent information. Below is a summary of the instructions for labeling and handling.

Marking guidelines for information in hard copy or electronic form: Information of this proprietary level that contains information classified as “Highly Confidential” or “Business Critical” will be plainly identified in the footer of each page as Proprietary Level 1.

Accessibility: Media must be kept from view of unauthorized individuals. Documents or other media should not be left in view on computer screens, desks, or tabletops. When not in use, they must be secured (e.g., locked in an office, file, or cabinet). When removable media (e.g., thumb drives or CDs) or email is used to store or transmit this level of information, it must be encrypted. Care should be taken that distribution is only to the intended recipients.

Retention: Based on required business need and applicable laws and regulations, the information asset owner will determine the retention period for all media.

External Distribution: Media containing proprietary information of this level must be delivered directly and require signature of receipt using approved carriers.

Electronic Distribution: Media containing proprietary information of this level must be encrypted.

Disposal: When electronic media or printed media containing Telecommunication Systems Inc. and/or Comtech proprietary information are no longer needed and any applicable retention period has lapsed, the data should be electronically deleted or physically destroyed. All Proprietary Level 1 printed media must be shredded.
